LORD OF THE RING! (That’s me!)
HOT! HOT! HOT! Not good weather for an Australian animal
that has thick hair/fur… we all had trouble sleeping last night (41 degrees
didn’t drop below 35 until after 11p.m.) we all had to have a cold wash cloth
sponge down so we could get some relief. Mum was very cranky pants and so she
had another cold sponge down and decided to put some talcum powder on just to
keep comfy a little while longer… she didn’t put the light on did she? No… and
she spilled the talcum all over the floor of the van. She was not happy! Dad
and I just pretended to be asleep coz we didn’t want our heads bitten off by
asking dumb questions like “what happened?” or
“are you ok?” when we heard the naughty words mum growled out! (Been
there, copped that, don’t wanna get it again!).
Mum reckons dad is a jinx! He reckoned it would be nice to
have a small canoe so we can all go out and have a paddle around, then (as dad
always does)… said we’d probably lose this peaceful setting and a group of
scouts will rock up and have a jamboree here or something.. Mum told him to
‘shut up’… next thing you know… about half a dozen canoes rock up and moor at
the boat launch! But they didn’t stay long, four cars turned up they packed the
canoes away and all the life jackets and drove off… then, as they drove off in
a cloud of dust. A nice young man rode out of the dust cloud. We are meeting a
lot of people on this trip and most of them have been really nice! His name was Dylan and works as a baker in
Alaska where he lives at Anchorage… and he is riding a push bike around
Australia before he flies out to do the same in New Zealand. He had funny
markings on his arms, legs, and fingers I asked mum what they were, she told me
they were tattoos, or body art. I looked at my furry paws and thought no point
in my getting a tattoo no one would see it! One of the tattoos on his right
paw… sorry, I mean right arm had pictures with instructions on how to fold a
paper plane, so I thought that was cool. Dad said for me to get a tattoo the first
thing would be to wait until I was older, then to get a tattoo like hat done I
would have to go to a tattoo parlor where the tattooist uses a needle full of
ink and stick it into my skin hundreds of times! I fainted when I got my little
wombat pre-school needle so I don’t think a tattoo is for me. Mum made him a cup of coffee and a slice of
banana and walnut bread, and dad filled up his water container. Dad and Dylan
talked for a while about their travels, where Dylan had been we are eventually
going, so the conversation was good. I didn’t understand most of it and just
watched the line of ants walking across the table outside. Mum said later he was ‘buff’ and dad growled
and frowned. I don’t know what that was all about!
Oooh!!!Guess What I am LORD OF THE RING! Dad let go of me in my swim ring this morning
before our brekkie swim. I didn’t know he had done that he had let go… I was
scared at first, but then I floated a little bit away from dad… I felt ever so
brave! I AM TAHUNE AIRWALK McKAY III LORD OF THE RING! (swim ring that is). It
was a lovely swim… mum and dad were very proud of me, I even saw some little
fish in the water coming up to say hello to me! I didn’t want to get out after
our dip but mum said it was time for breakfast, then after an hour if I still
wanted to go back in we could but I would have to wait until then.
Today is going to be 43 degrees and two more trees came
crashing down a fair distance away last night. I jumped but both mum and dad
told me not to worry as those trees came down a very long way off. I looked up
at the trees nearest to our van… just to check, can’t really blame me can you?
I don’t want to be squished! It's going to be the same tomorrow and 43 for two days after that! We have decided that it will be better just to stay put near the river and swim a lot and keep drinking a lot of water. Dad said this is 'dangerous heat'. Mum put some sun cream on my nose so I don't get it sun burned. I am amazed at how small our van is and how big it is at the same time... What I mean is the storage. There's heaps of it! There's almost enough room for daddy if he squishes down, I hope he's not in there if there's an arugment... mum might not let him out! LOL! *just kidding*.
Mum had to buy another pair of sunglasses as the other pair
broke in half! She bought them at the camping store in Cobram and they are
polarized! Mum let me put them on when I went out fishing with dad to protect
my eyes and it stops the glare from the water! I can see the little fish swim
past dad’s hook… I whisper “keep swimming little fishy.. daddy wants a big one!”.
We came back to the van and I pretended I was
super cool with mum’s sunnies on and put my paws up! “Dude!” I yelled... Mum
and dad just laughed, lunch was a salad sandwich for mum, dad had tahini,
cheese and peanut butter (GROSS!) and mum found some really fresh green grass
for me. We talked about where we had been so far, and where we were going next.
Dad suggested I choose the next spot… yay! I look through the book of all the
camping places very carefully and say “This looks good I think we should go to
Tom and Barry’s way”. Mum raised one eyebrow, and dad said, “Where?” I point to
the book while looking at the picture. “Right there… see? here on this page…
Tom and Barry’s way!” Mum looked me and
where I was pointing with my paw. Then she looked at dad and smiled, picked me
up and gave me a hug saying she thought it was a wonderful choice! (Go me and
my bad self!) Then she put me down for my wombat nap after lunch… I heard dad
say to mum “Tom and Barry’s way?” Mum laughed as she said “he means
Torrumbarry’s Weir past Echuca and Moama”
Oh… Is that what I mean? *yawn* zzzzzzzzz
Daddy Storage... ha ha.
I don't know daddy, it looks deep to me!
Now there's a good looking and brave wombat!
DAD! YOU LET GO!
Daddy is proud of me!
Next stop? Tom and Barry's Way.
DUUUUDE! HIGH SIX! :)
Until next time... lots of love and wombat cuddles

Hi again gorgeous Tahune Airwalk McKay III - Lord of the Ring! So many things have happened since we last wrote to you. Jassy & Rhys arrived from Rocky with the kidlets and it's been pretty hectic ever since. They just sort-of got settled in when it was Australia Day! (Yep, we thought of our little Aussie wombat) and the next day it was Regan's birthday and the next day Rylie's 21st came up. It was lots of fun but it didn't give us much time to do anything else. (You know what I mean!) Then TODAY - OMG! - the huge container arrived with lots of stuff for Jassy & Rhys and, since it gets picked up tomorrow, we were flat out getting everything inside the house and downstairs. All this - with four littlies in the house, Callen, Jack, Rosie and Emmalee. Phew! What a day! We were hoping that the container would look like the TARDIS but alas! Still - the tenth doctor arrived out of nowhere (he's a Time Lord you know) - so we took a pic of him looking awesome as always! Pretty Cool Huh! :) Hope you're being a good little wombat and are looking after Mum & Dad for us. Sending Love & huge wombat cuddles to you too! xxx's <3
